Perth Property Duty: Check the Transaction Before the Assessment
Western Australian transfer duty turns on the actual transaction, property and parties. Early review can identify valuation, exemption and lodgment issues before they harden into a dispute.
Transfer duty is a Western Australian tax assessed on specified transactions. The result depends on the legal and commercial substance of the transaction, the property transferred, the parties and any exemption or concession claimed. A contract label alone does not settle those questions.
Build the evidence before arguing the number
Keep the executed instruments, variations, valuations, ownership records, consideration evidence and correspondence together. Check that the transaction described in the assessment is the transaction that occurred and that the relevant dates and values are supported.
Act on deadlines
If an assessment appears wrong, identify the objection or review path and its deadline immediately. A short chronology, issue list and complete document set usually make the first legal discussion more productive.
